It is a small town, situated on a ridge 6-km southwest of Kathmandu. The ancient township is a natural fortress and has a proud and courageous history. The Chilamchu stupa and the temple of Bagh Bhairav are major sights here. The city offers quaint streets lined with artistic houses and temple squares. The people are known for their skill in building and weaving.

This is an excellent place for day tour. It is easy to get and around Kirtipur. You may visit here by local bus or by renting a car, motorbike or cycle as well. This is also best for mountain biking as well. Most of the area can be explore with mountain bike and it is great fun!

In the past, it has twelve little downs and with each little town has their own gate to inter. You can still see old part of the city and some part of the old wall. Local people of Kirtipur are more industrial and still you could find follower or Cottage industry follower. This place also keep historical value as when Prithvi Narayan Shah attacked the valley in 1768, Kirtipur was the first place to be attacked.

Main attraction of this place is local people and their culture. If you wish to see local people of Kathmandu valley, Kirtipur is one of the best places to visit. From the hill you enjoy the good views of the Kathmandu valley. If you have bit of more time, you could combine Chobar (Chobar Gorge) in your visit as well.





At the down of the two hills, you could see the three-tiered Bag Bhairab Temple, holy for both Buddhist and Hindus. Hindus and Buddhist both worship Bhairab, the main deity of the temple in the form of the tiger. Similarly Chitu Bahail, Lokeshwar, Chilancho Vihar, Jagat Pal Vihar, Vath (Layaku), Umamaheshvar Temple, Baghbhairab Temple, Indrayani Pith, Shikhara, Buddha Temple, Chve Bahal and Kwe Bahal and Buddha Dharma Sangha Shikhara are interested temples and places to visit.



Kirtipur still remind the large degree of its authentic Character. There is still sacrifices are made on every morning of Tuesday and Saturday.
